6 Ways to Set Intentions
6 Ways to Set Intentions
Setting intentions has been picking up momentum over the years. It can become a lifestyle routine, just as someone who adopts a routine of waking up early, eating healthy or working out daily. It’s these tiny rituals or routines that can yield incredible results and help us achieve our desires. Intention setting leads to manifestation. For a more in depth look at intention setting I recommend the blog The Art of Setting Intentions.
Intentions setting to achieve our desires does require some work and repetition. It is said that if you do something for 21 days straight it becomes a habit. Do it for 90 days and it becomes a lifestyle change. Sometimes starting is the hardest part.
If you want to set intentions but don’t know where to start, these are some tricks and tips to help along your journey.
Write it Down.
Get a blank book and write down your intentions daily. Some people like to write them down twice a day; once first thing in the morning and once before bed. The act of physically writing has a greater cognitive impact than say, typing it out. Start by visualizing what your desire is and then write an intention statement in the present tense was though it is your new reality. Write from the perspective of who you want to be and what positive impact you would have on others.
It’s important to chose your words carefully. Write from a positive, abundant stand point opposed to a lacking stand point. For example if you want to lose weight, don’t focus on the weight, rather focus on the actions that lead to losing weight such as “I will eat healthy food because I love my body and deserve to feel good”.
Another way to look at it is to write from how you are going to achieve your goal rather than the goal itself. This is how you can create a positive routine that leads to the change you want to see. For Example, if you want a promotion at work, instead of saying “I will work really hard” you may opt to say “I will be focused and allow myself to learn new things because I am excited to grow and gain new skills”.
Similar to writing down intentions, scripting is a great way to create a daily routine. In scripting you can write freely but with a focus on your desires and intentions. Write from the perspective as though you are living your desires, and all the wonderful feelings associated with having those desires. This includes those ideas of who you want to be as a person. This is also a great way to gain clarity on your intentions and the course of action needed to achieve them.
You may have heard the phrase “speak with intention”, meaning that by putting thought and carefully constructing what you say with your words can have a positive or negative impact. Speaking intentions hold vibrations that are transferable. Speaking your intention out loud daily helps us to remain focused on our goals.
In the Emoto water experiment, speech with intention had a dramatic effect on the molecular structure of water as water holds vibration. Negative intentions created disfigured formations while positive intentions created beautiful designs. It’s also interesting to note that the disfigured molecular structure of the water could be transformed using positive intentions, and vice versa.
Speaking intentions to water, then drinking the water provides dual benefits. You are setting an intention, then consuming the transformed water.
Meditate on it.
Meditation helps to clear the mind and bring us into the present moment. Often through meditation is where people find clarity or birth new ideas. You can try the 17 second rule (17 seconds is known as the “combustion point”) for visualization. Holding an intention or desire in the minds eye, sitting in the positive emotion connected to the feeling of of achieving your desire for 17 seconds while meditating is said to transition the mind to positive vibration.
Create a Positive Morning Routine.
Why the morning? Because it sets the tone for the entire day. Creating a positive morning routine before plugging into any social media or distractions enables us to design tiny rituals that lead to big gains. Using the quiet, stillness of the morning is a great time to script, meditate or exercise.
Alternatively, for the night owl archetypes, creating a positive bed time routine is just as effective. Disconnecting from social media and giving yourself down time to script, write intentions or meditate before bed helps to hold those intentions in the minds eye and will be the first thing you think of when you wake up.
Establish a time where you will be undisturbed that you can devote to setting intentions in some form or another is the goal.
Intentions have as much or as little power as you give to them. Ultimately you are the magic and you create your own magic. Having the tools to help you along your journey makes obtaining those desires tangible, and it just require some commitment. I have faith in you. You will get there, just keep going.
